4-Day Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru Safari

A 4-Day Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru Safari combines two of Kenya’s premier wildlife destinations — the legendary big-cat country of the Maasai Mara and the flamingo-fringed, rhino-rich shores of Lake Nakuru — for a varied and rewarding journey through the Great Rift Valley.

Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive north through the scenic Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park (around 3 hours). After lunch at your lodge or camp, head out for an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is famous for its populations of both black and white rhino, as well as flocks of flamingos and pelicans along the lakeshore. Watch for tree-climbing lions, leopards, buffalo, and the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Dinner and overnight near the park.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara After breakfast, drive southwest to the Maasai Mara (roughly 5–6 hours), arriving in time for lunch. Set out for an afternoon game drive across the open plains, where lions, elephants, giraffes, and grazing herds are commonly seen. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full Day in the Maasai Mara Spend a full day exploring the reserve with morning and afternoon game drives in search of the Big Five and the Mara’s renowned big cats. In season (roughly July to October), you may witness the dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration. Opt for a bush picnic lunch to stay out among the wildlife, or add an optional visit to a Maasai village to learn about local culture. Overnight at your camp.

Day 4: Maasai Mara to Nairobi Enjoy an early morning game drive when wildlife is most active, then return for breakfast. Check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.
